Best website firewall and malware protection for SMEs

A web application firewall (WAF) filters bad requests before they reach your site. Malware cleanup services fix a site after it is hacked. Many Malaysian SME sites run on WordPress, so this page includes both network-level (CDN) and WordPress-level options.

FAQ

Do I need both Cloudflare and a WordPress security plugin?

They work at different layers. A CDN firewall such as Cloudflare blocks traffic before it reaches your host; a plugin such as Wordfence sees what happens inside WordPress. Many sites use both.

My website is hacked. What do I do first?

Change all admin and hosting passwords, turn on MFA, take a backup of the current state for evidence, then restore a clean backup or use a cleanup service. Ask your host whether they include malware removal.

Does a WAF replace updates?

No. A WAF reduces risk while you update. Keep WordPress core, themes and plugins up to date.
